Lion and the Mouse

This pattern was inspired by Aesop's fable the Lion and the Mouse. The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators had a group critique. The art director assigned this fable as a cover assignment. I decided to work on the project as a pattern design. Each pattern I design starts with a moodboard and thumbnails sketches. The motifs were hand-drawn in pen and ink. I used Photoshop CC to create the tossed pattern. The accompanying sell sheet was created using the shape tool in Photoshop and the pattern was applied as a fill. I plan to tie this into my MFA thesis of picture books and surface design. Woodland Slumber

This pattern was created for the Digital Illustration course with Professor Constantino. Motifs were hand-drawn and then brought into Illustrator CC to be vectorized. The products in the sell sheets were drawn in Illustrator CC.

Low Country Sea Life

After taking Digital Illustration ILLU 730, I began to explore possibilities with surface design. I was inspired by living in Savannah, Georgia. This pattern was drawn using pencil and then traced in pen and ink. I vectorized my drawings in Illustrator CC. For the photographic mockups I masked and multiplied the pattern in Photoshop CC. Photos for the mockups are from freepik or pexels.

Fall Squirrels and Pumpkins

This pattern was inspired by Fall and Thanksgiving. I hand drew the elements and used Illustrator CC to vectorize and create the patterns. I tried to create multiple patterns using my motifs.  Photos for the mockups are from freepik or pexels.

Cat Nouveau

Spoonflower.com had a challenge with the theme of Art Nouveau. The motifs were inspired by friend's cat. Her cat was a Maine Coon.  I looked at the surface designs of William Morris & Co. Photos are from freepik royalty free and Creatsy. I took the photograph for the stationery mockup.

Florals and Birds

I took a workshop with Professor Bruzenak on the patterns of William Morris. Based on the workshop I started the motifs. Elements of the design were drawn and inked. I used Photoshop CC to add color and texture. Textures were created using a brayer and printing ink on paper. I was also inspired by the color in Paul Klee's paintings. This stand alone design was created. Photos for mockups are from freepik royalty free and Creatsy. I took the photograph for the stationery mockup.
