Eastern Papermaking and Minhwa Workshops
As a cut paper artist, I wanted to learn how to make my own paper, and took a workshop from a Korean American papermaker, Steph Rue. She offers amazing workshops on making hanji. I learned how the dak fibers can be turned into beautiful, strong paper using Asian papermaking techniques. I got into this amazing craft and started making my paper for my paper illustrations. I decided to share this with those who are interested in learning more about this type of papermaking.
Minhwa is a Korean art form I was drawn to because of its close connection to hanji, a medium I often work with. I enjoy creating minhwa inspired by traditional Korean motifs while also exploring and developing my own illustrative style within the art form. I was fortunate to study under Hye Ryung Suk, a master minhwa artist, which deepened my appreciation and practice.
